Jambo!! It is truly an honour to welcome you to Nairobi, a city named after a Maasai word “nairoba” meaning the place of cool waters. We warmly invite you to join us for the 4th Continental Association of African Neurological Societies (CAANS) Congress 2022.
…
It is remarkable what we have achieved as a continental association in these short 8 years since CAANS was birthed to represent Africa and forge our place in the worldwide community of neurosurgeons. In this regard the Neurological Society of Kenya (NSK) and the East African Neurological Society (EANS) both being national societies in the Republic of Kenya, have been at work organizing this biennial congress, hoping to build on and step up from the prior three very successful CAANS congresses.
We plan to have a rigorous scientific meeting led by the scientific committee with Dr. P. Kitunguu and the team and a warm and refreshing social agenda set up by Dr. Wanyoike and team. There are opportunities to enjoy the bountiful safari, game and tourism potential that we have in Kenya. This meeting should invigorate our capability and resolve to deal with the myriad of challenges faced by African neurosurgeons in helping build healthcare offered to the 1.2 billion of our brothers and sisters.
The congress will be preceded by workshops and symposia, and this year we look forward to the AANS boot camp, Neuroanatomy, neurovascular, neuroendoscopic and Spine workshops as organized by Dr. Kiboi and team.
I wish to particularly mention our young neurosurgeons and female neurosurgeons on the continent and reassure them that both the Pre-congress and the scientific programme has been crafted to include their participation and we look forward to supporting them with opportunities to contribute.
Its an exciting time for us here in Nairobi and on that note let me thank all my colleagues in the neurosurgical community for the hard work and support on this endeavour and ask that we keep the momentum toward the end.
To our continental and international partners, we say “Karibu Kenya”, welcome and we look forward to your support in making this congress a notable success!
Sincerely
Dr. Edwin Mogere – Congress President
